European Funds Renovate Schools in Moldova and Romania

In the village of Sireţi, Moldova, the gymnasium of Liceul Grigore Vieru began a comprehensive refurbishment after 57 years of neglect. The district council allocated 1.5 million MDL for the work, which also includes repaving the school access road, with an expected completion date of 1 September. School director Anastasia Țopă noted that the old plaster was failing and the floor needed replacement, while mayor Leonid Boaghi emphasized the community’s contribution to the project. The renovation is part of a broader EU programme that has earmarked over €50 million for school‑building upgrades across Moldova.

Meanwhile, in Ciudanovița, Romania, the local primary school finished a major renovation funded by European Union grants. The overhaul replaced the roof, sanitary and heating installations, installed new windows, and introduced energy‑saving measures. New furniture and digital equipment—including smart boards, computers and projectors—have been installed, preparing the school to welcome students in September. The project was overseen by mayor Dorian Nebunu, who previously secured additional EU funding for the school’s IT infrastructure.
