European Hotel Prices: Germany Finds Poland and Czech Cheaper, While Croatia Nearly Doubles Since 2021

Data from the German Federal Statistical Office show that hotel and restaurant prices across Europe vary widely. Compared with Germany, Poland’s prices are about 12 % lower and the Czech Republic’s about 30 % lower. Southern destinations such as North Macedonia (-52 %), Bulgaria (-47 %), Portugal (-30 %) and Spain (-22 %) also offer cheaper accommodation, while northern markets like Iceland (+49 %), Norway (+34 %) and Denmark (+29 %) are significantly more expensive.

A separate analysis of EU accommodation costs from May 2021 to May 2026 indicates that average hotel prices have risen by roughly 46.5 % continent‑wide, outpacing overall inflation. The steepest increases occurred in popular tourist spots: Greece (+68.3 %), Spain (+76.1 %) and Croatia, where prices surged by 92.2 %, almost doubling the 2021 level. The reports note that price growth varies by booking platform, season and location, urging travelers to compare multiple sources and consider ancillary fees when budgeting for trips.
