European hotel and accommodation price trends
Overview
Data from the German Federal Statistical Office indicates significant variation in hotel and restaurant prices across Europe. Compared to Germany, accommodation is approximately 12% cheaper in Poland and 30% cheaper in the Czech Republic. Southern European destinations, including North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Portugal, and Spain, also offer lower costs relative to Germany.
Conversely, northern markets such as Iceland, Norway, and Denmark show significantly higher prices. An analysis of EU accommodation costs from May 2021 to May 2026 reveals that average hotel prices have risen by roughly 46.5% continent-wide, a rate that has outpaced overall inflation. The most substantial price increases were recorded in popular tourist locations, specifically Greece, Spain, and Croatia, where prices surged by 92.2%, nearly doubling since 2021.
