European markets fall amid economic concerns and Greek business challenges

European stock markets closed on a negative note on Thursday, as broader economic concerns outweighed the optimism generated by strong earnings forecasts from Nvidia. The Stoxx 600 index fell by 0.62%, with significant declines seen in the French CAC 40, which dropped 1.61%. French large-cap stocks led the decline following disappointing corporate results in the consumer and industrial sectors, notably Pernod Ricard, which saw its shares fall 7.4% after reporting a decrease in net sales.

In Greece, Alexis Tsipras, president of the Greek Left Coalition, met with G. Kavvathas, president of the General Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen and Merchants of Greece (GSSEE). The discussion focused on the challenges facing small and micro-enterprises and the self-employed. Key issues raised included high tax pressure, lack of access to financing, liquidity problems, and rising energy costs. The GSSEE highlighted the need for better debt management and targeted policies to prevent market concentration from further harming smaller businesses.
