Romania and EU Mobilize Against Russian Drone Attacks in Europe

The European Parliament adopted a resolution condemning Russia’s drone incursions into EU airspace, calling the attacks a systematic threat to the bloc’s security. Lawmakers voted 412‑63‑53 to reinforce defence, accelerate delivery of air‑defence systems to Ukraine and increase funding for the Republic of Moldova through the European Peace Facility.

Romanian MEP Daniel Buda warned that Romania lacks an effective anti‑drone protection system, saying “România nu are un sistem foarte eficient de protecție …”. He called for urgent assistance from Western partners and redeployment of strategic assets to critical national points.

Former Romanian president Traian Băsescu criticised the government’s silence after a Ukrainian drone exploded at the Port of Constanța, calling the inaction “o rușine”. He demanded a strong diplomatic protest and warned that, after the war, Romania could face further problems with Ukraine.

All statements highlight the growing security challenge posed by Russian drones and the need for coordinated EU‑wide defence measures and increased support for frontier states such as Moldova and Ukraine.
