European Parliament proposes 194 billion euro budget for 2027

The European Parliament has adopted its position on the 2027 European Union budget, proposing total commitment appropriations of 194 billion euros. This figure represents an increase of 1.17 billion euros over the initial proposal submitted by the European Commission. For actual payments to beneficiaries, the Parliament has proposed a total of 203.3 billion euros.

The proposal includes targeted funding increases for several key programs: 260 million euros for transport and energy networks, 96 million euros for Erasmus+, 85 million euros for the LIFE program, and 85 million euros for the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund. Additionally, the Parliament seeks 63 million euros for Horizon Europe, 50 million euros for EU4Health, and 80 million euros for the Civil Protection Mechanism.

Regarding migration and border management, the Parliament suggests increasing funds for the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund by 20 million euros and the Border and Visa Management Instrument by 40 million euros. MEPs also emphasized that the costs of repaying EU debt, including loans for NextGenerationEU and support for Ukraine, should be covered by specific financial instruments to avoid reducing funds for existing core programs.
