European Parliament to debate Ceuta migration crisis
The European Parliament is set to debate and vote on a resolution regarding the migration crisis in Ceuta during its upcoming September plenary session. The crisis, involving tens of thousands of irregular entries from Morocco into the Spanish enclave, has become a major point of political contention within the EU.
Political divisions are emerging as the debate approaches. Members of the European People's Party (PPE) have criticized Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez for failing to protect European borders. Meanwhile, the European Conservatives and Reformists group has argued that Sánchez's regularization policies act as a pull factor, encouraging illegal migration by suggesting that irregular entries may eventually lead to legal status.
The European Parliament is also planning to send a mission to Ceuta to evaluate the management of the migration situation.
