EPPO indicts four Greek MPs for EU farm subsidy fraud

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) has indicted four serving Greek parliamentarians—Kostas Skrekas, Christos Boukoros, Maximos Senetakis and Katerina Papakosta—on misdemeanor charges relating to the alleged misuse of European Union agricultural subsidies administered by the Greek agency OPEKEPE. The accusations include instigating breach of trust, unlawful management of EU funds, false attestation and attempted computer fraud. In total, the EPPO’s investigation involves 22 people, among them former senior OPEKEPE officials and 18 additional individuals, while charges against seven other MPs were dropped for lack of evidence.

The case has ignited a sharp political battle in Greece. Government officials have emphasized the presumption of innocence and criticized the opposition for politicising the matter, whereas opposition parties demand full accountability and call the scandal a serious case of public‑money mismanagement with an EU dimension. The indictments have prompted public statements, demands for apologies, and debate over the handling of EU farm aid in Greece.
