European public opinion shifts regarding Gaza war
An international survey conducted by the DAAD Center for German Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem indicates a shift in public opinion across Europe due to the war in Gaza. In Germany, France, Great Britain, and Poland, respondents reported becoming more pro-Palestinian and less pro-Israel compared to two years ago.
In Germany, the proportion of people identifying as more pro-Palestinian rose from 14% to 19%. The most significant shift occurred in Poland, where pro-Palestinian sentiment grew from 14% to 30%. In all surveyed countries, a relative majority stated that the war had not changed their overall opinion.
The survey also highlighted changes regarding the concept of Israel's security as a German ‘Staatsräson’ (reason of state). In Germany, the percentage of respondents supporting this principle dropped from 45% to 37%, while the group of undecided individuals grew to a relative majority of 42%.
