Justice Minister Rita Alarcão Júdice ordered an internal audit by the Inspector‑General of the Justice Services (IGSJ) of the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) and a separate internal evaluation of the tenure of Interior Minister Luís Neves while he was director of the force. Neves responded that he is “absolutely calm” and praised the minister’s decision.

At the same time, Neves is subject to a financial‑responsibility proceeding before the Tribunal de Contas over the PJ’s 2023 management. The audit found irregularities in contracts for fuel with Petrogal, travel with Clube Viajar, credit‑card spending and the lack of a travel fund, amounting to more than €694 000. The Tribunal opened the case on 24 June and assigned it to judge Paulo Dá Mesquita on 29 June, ultimately issuing only a censure of negligence for Neves and former deputy director Luísa Proença.

The European Public Prosecutor’s Office launched a preventive verification of 17 contracts between the PJ and the construction firm Construbarcelos, several funded by EU recovery money. The verification is not a criminal investigation and no suspects have been named. The inquiry also overlaps with a separate public‑prosecutor investigation of a seized trailer linked to a drug‑trafficking case that has already been placed under inquiry.
