Serbia election: RIK confirms 6.45 million voters for October 25 polls

As Serbia prepares for parliamentary elections on October 25, the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK) has finalized the voter registry, confirming 6,450,523 eligible voters. The commission has also approved the printing of an equal number of ballots. For voters residing abroad, 102,147 citizens are registered across 93 polling stations.

The election process has faced significant scrutiny and controversy. The Studentska lista has raised objections regarding the organization of overseas polling stations, accusing government ministries of obstructing registration for citizens living abroad. They further claim the RIK rejected their objections after the legal 72-hour deadline had passed and intend to appeal to the Administrative Court.

Concerns have been raised by RIK members regarding the accuracy of the voter registry. Member Sofija Mandić noted that the number of registered voters is nearly identical to the total population of Serbia, a discrepancy that has caused alarm. Additionally, Ana Brnabić has called for an international observation mission from the European Parliament, which is reportedly prepared to send a delegation of seven MEPs to monitor the process.

Political leaders continue to campaign heavily. Aleksandar Vučić has emphasized the importance of high turnout and claimed his list's advantage is growing, while Milorad Dodik has expressed support for Vučić, stating that a victory for Serbia is a victory for the Republika Srpska.
