European stock markets show mixed performance amid regional volatility
European stock markets showed mixed performance on Monday. The Spanish IBEX 35 rose 1.12% following the announcement of early elections in November, while the French CAC 40 fell 0.80% to a semi-annual low due to industrial losses and concerns regarding French government bond sell-offs.
Other major indices saw modest movements: the FTSE 100 in London increased by 0.34%, the FTSE MIB in Milan rose 0.66%, and the DAX in Frankfurt saw a marginal gain of 0.09%. The Stoxx 600 index closed up 0.36%.
In Greece, the Euronext Athens General Index experienced slight volatility, closing with a marginal increase of 0.13% at 2,639.95 points. This follows a period of high volatility where the index recently hit a 17-year high before retreating.
Global economic factors, including US employment data and shifting expectations regarding Federal Reserve interest rate hikes, contributed to the market climate. Additionally, rising prices for metals such as aluminum, copper, and nickel provided some support to certain sectors.
