European travel and logistics face seasonal shifts

Summer travel and seasonal shifts are impacting various sectors across Europe. A new tourism trend known as ‘coolcation’ is emerging, where travelers increasingly seek cooler destinations like Norway, Iceland, and Switzerland to avoid extreme heat, with searches for such trips rising significantly.

In the logistics sector, the summer holiday season creates challenges for European supply chains. While demand shifts toward tourist regions, available transport capacity decreases due to driver holidays and seasonal truck driving bans. This has led to an increased reliance on less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping models.

In the Czech Republic, Minister of Education Robert Plaga has raised discussions regarding the potential redistribution of school holidays. Currently, the Czech Republic maintains a long summer break, whereas other European nations like Germany or France distribute holidays more evenly throughout the year. This debate involves considerations for families, students, and the tourism industry.

Additionally, travel patterns are shifting toward the shoulder season. Destinations in Greece, Turkey, Egypt, and Montenegro are seeing increased interest in September due to warmer seas, lower prices, and fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months.
