European transport leaders advance heavy-duty vehicle decarbonization

Major industry players are advancing decarbonization efforts for heavy-duty transport through new partnerships and technological collaborations in Europe.

In France, Bump has joined the Alphya charging network. This partnership integrates Bump’s charging solutions into Alphya’s mutualized network, which serves 139 transport companies across 197 sites. The alliance aims to densify the territorial coverage of electric charging stations for heavy goods vehicles, supporting a sector where charging sessions have reportedly increased by over 100% in a single year.

Simultaneously, a coalition of automotive, energy, and equipment giants—including Daimler Truck, Volvo Group, Toyota, Bosch, Air Liquide, and TotalEnergies—has launched an initiative in Germany to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen-powered trucks. The group aims to establish the necessary infrastructure by 2030, synchronizing the rollout of hydrogen refueling stations along major European corridors with the introduction of new vehicle fleets. A primary goal of this collaboration is to ensure hydrogen remains economically competitive by optimizing the total cost of ownership for transporters.
