European Union allocates 130 million euros for border drones
The European Commission has announced an additional 130 million euro allocation for drone technology to strengthen border security and counter hybrid threats. This announcement was made during a meeting of justice and home affairs ministers in Luxembourg.
The funding is part of a broader action plan for drone and anti-drone security. The program can cover up to 90% of project costs, including the purchase of drones, anti-drone systems, and their integration into national surveillance networks. This initiative follows a previous 250 million euro fund aimed at national authorities for land and maritime surveillance.
Additionally, 170 million euros have been made available through the Border Management and Visa instrument for Frontex and national authorities to acquire unmanned equipment. Combined, these investments in new surveillance technologies exceed 500 million euros, reflecting an increased emphasis on protecting borders and critical infrastructure.
