European Union approves €4.9 billion in military aid for Ukraine

The Council of the European Union has adopted eight decisions to mobilize approximately €4.9 billion through the European Peace Facility (EPF) to support Ukraine.

Of this total, €4.7 billion is designated to partially reimburse EU member states for military equipment and assistance already provided to Kyiv. The remaining €230 million will be allocated to the EU Military Assistance Mission in Support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine) to strengthen the training of Ukrainian armed forces in military tactics and weapon usage.

These decisions follow a broader political agreement reached in September to mobilize €6.6 billion through the EPF. With this latest package, the total assistance authorized through the European Peace Facility has reached €10.8 billion.

Separately, EU member states are discussing a potential €45 billion loan for Ukraine to meet financial and defense needs in 2027. However, discussions regarding this new mechanism have highlighted internal divisions, with the Czech Republic and Slovakia reportedly expressing reluctance to participate in the new financial arrangement.
