European Union approves 3 billion euro aid package for Ukraine

The European Union Council has approved the eighth package of aid under the Ukraine Facility, totaling approximately 3 billion euros. This funding is designated for the reconstruction, modernization, and recovery of Ukraine. Nearly 800 million euros of this amount will be provided through a new loan mechanism. Additionally, Norway has contributed approximately 92 million euros (1 billion Norwegian kroner) in the form of non-repayable grants to support Kyiv’s financial and administrative stability.

Despite these disbursements, Ukraine is requesting further significant funding from Western partners. Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko stated that the country requires an additional 69 billion euros through 2027, with 40 billion euros intended for military expenditures and 29 billion euros for state operations and public services. This request comes as some European nations face budgetary constraints and debate the long-term scale of financial commitments to Ukraine.
