European Union approves 73 million euros for Italian farmers

European Union member states have approved a proposal to mobilize over 73 million euros from the EU agricultural crisis reserve to support Italian farmers affected by avian influenza and African swine fever.

The funds aim to provide economic relief to livestock producers facing significant losses due to sanitary restrictions, animal culls, and production difficulties. Of the total amount, 61 million euros is designated for poultry and egg producers impacted by avian influenza outbreaks recorded in Italy between September 2022 and March 2025. The remaining funds will address the impact of African swine fever.

Payments are expected to be disbursed to eligible farmers by the end of May next year. National authorities will manage the operational distribution of these resources under the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
