Financial support for Italian agricultural sectors
Overview
Italian agricultural producers have received various forms of financial support to mitigate rising costs and biological crises.
In mid-September, the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry approved a decree allocating over 136 million euros to assist farmers with rising fertilizer costs. This funding, sourced from both national resources and the European agricultural reserve, aims to compensate for 50 percent of price increases for specific crops such as cereals, wheat, rice, and corn. The initiative targets over 547,000 farmers through direct credit to minimize delays.
By late September, European Union member states approved an additional 73 million euros from the EU agricultural crisis reserve specifically for Italian farmers affected by avian influenza and African swine fever. This relief is intended for livestock producers facing losses from sanitary restrictions and animal culls, with 61 million euros designated for poultry and egg producers. Payments for these funds are expected to be disbursed by the end of May the following year.
