European Union condemns Iranian military escalation in Middle East

The European Union has expressed alarm regarding a recent military escalation in the Middle East. In a statement released by the European External Action Service (EEAS), the bloc vehemently condemned a wave of Iranian attacks targeting Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

The EU also expressed regret over attacks on Saudi merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, noting these actions violate international law. The bloc called for immediate de-escalation and the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, urging all parties to protect civilian populations and avoid actions that threaten regional stability.

The surge in violence follows U.S. airstrikes against Iranian Revolutionary Guard facilities, which Washington characterized as necessary to protect regional troops and commercial shipping. In retaliation, Iran launched missiles and drones at U.S. bases in Jordan, Bahrain, Iraq, and Kuwait. This escalation occurs amidst a broader conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran that has continued for over six months.
