European Union funds Slovenian healthcare infrastructure upgrades

Slovenia has utilized European Union funding, including resources from the REACT-EU initiative and the European Regional Development Fund, to address critical gaps in its healthcare system. The investments target the shortage of capacity for long-term hospital care, nursing, rehabilitation, and post-acute care.

These multi-million euro projects focus on establishing, renovating, and modernizing nursing hospitals and specialized care departments in major regional centers, including Ljubljana, Maribor, and Murska Sobota. The upgrades aim to improve patient flow, reduce waiting times for acute treatments, and alleviate pressure on acute hospital departments by providing better support for patients transitioning from intensive care to home or social care environments.
