EU funded healthcare infrastructure in Balkans and Slovenia
Overview
Various European Union funded projects are underway to improve healthcare infrastructure across several regions. In Croatia, renovation works have begun on the Pag health center to update facilities including the roof, facade, and sanitary installations.
In Montenegro, the microbiological laboratory at the Dr. Jovan Bulajić Special Hospital in Brezovik has been reconstructed and equipped. This project, valued at approximately 360,000 euros, focuses on enhancing biosafety for the diagnosis of tuberculosis and mycobacteriosis through improved ventilation and molecular diagnostics.
Slovenia is also utilizing EU resources, such as the REACT-EU initiative and the European Regional Development Fund, to address capacity shortages in long-term hospital care, nursing, and rehabilitation. These investments target the modernization of specialized care departments in regional centers including Ljubljana, Maribor, and Murska Sobota to improve patient flow and reduce pressure on acute hospital departments.
