European Union grain import value declines by 11 percent

According to a recent European Commission trade report, the value of grain imports into the European Union fell by 11 percent during the first seven months of 2026, totaling 609 million euros. This decline in import value is notable as grain represents one of the product groups with the most significant decrease in EU import value.

While grain imports decreased, EU agricultural exports remained strong. Specifically, agricultural and food exports to Egypt rose by 22 percent to 251 million euros, driven largely by increased wheat exports. Additionally, exports to Ukraine and Turkey saw increases of 10 percent and 7 percent, respectively. Overall, the EU maintained a significant surplus in its agricultural and food trade during this period.
