European Union implements new customs tariff on non-EU online orders

The Government of Castilla-La Mancha has issued a warning regarding a new temporary European Union customs duty affecting online purchases. Since July 1, 2026, a three-euro tariff applies to certain products valued at up to 150 euros originating from countries outside the EU.

The measure is scheduled to remain in effect until July 1, 2028, after which standard customs duties will apply based on product type. The application of this fee depends on the shipping origin and the value of the goods, rather than the website domain, the platform's nationality, or the currency used for payment. Consequently, even purchases made on European platforms may incur this cost if the items are shipped from outside the EU.

The three-euro fee is applied per line in the customs declaration, which typically corresponds to different product categories. This means a single package containing multiple types of goods may incur multiple charges. Consumers are advised to verify whether online platforms include taxes, duties, and management fees in their listed prices to avoid unexpected costs during delivery.
