EU signals resumption of Brazilian poultry and honey imports
The European Union has signaled that it may resume imports of Brazilian poultry and honey in the short term. This follows a positive audit by the European Commission, which found that Brazil’s production systems meet EU requirements regarding the control and prohibition of antimicrobials used to stimulate animal growth.
The indication was made by European Commissioner for Trade Maroš Šefčovič during a meeting with Brazilian ministers in Milwaukee, USA. While the audit results are favorable, the formal resumption of shipments depends on completing bureaucratic procedures and a final review by the European Commission’s Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed, scheduled for October 20 and 21.
In contrast, the resumption of beef exports faces a much longer timeline. EU officials indicated that proving compliance for beef requires traceability throughout the animal's entire life cycle, a process that could take up to two years. Brazilian industry representatives have criticized this delay as “inacceptable,” calling for more reciprocal trade measures.
