EU urges Israel to halt E1 settlement project in West Bank
The European Union has called on Israel to halt its E1 settlement project in the West Bank, warning that the construction of 1,234 new homes across seven residential complexes could fragment the territory and isolate East Jerusalem, thereby undermining the two-state solution. EU High Representative Kaja Kallas characterized the settlements in the area as illegal under international law.
In a separate development, Israeli authorities seized control of a UNRWA vocational training center in eastern Jerusalem. The facility, located in the Kafr Aqab neighborhood, has provided professional training to approximately 340 Palestinians annually since 1952. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the takeover, stating that the move would deprive young people of essential education and asserting that UN premises are inviolable.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the evacuation, stating it was carried out in accordance with legislation passed by the Knesset. He asserted that Israel will not allow UNRWA to operate in its territory, alleging the agency has served as a cover for Hamas activities.
