Eurowings aircraft makes emergency landing in Düsseldorf due to smoke
An Eurowings Airbus A320, en route from Düsseldorf to Brindisi, Italy, was forced to make an emergency landing back at Düsseldorf Airport after the crew reported light smoke development in the cabin.
The aircraft departed at approximately 16:53 and returned to the airport at 17:05, having been in the air for only about twelve minutes. Approximately 144 to 150 passengers were on board. Following the landing, the aircraft was evacuated via mobile stairs, and passengers were transported to the terminal by bus. Around 70 emergency responders, including firefighters and medical personnel, attended the scene. Two passengers were taken to nearby hospitals for precautionary medical examinations.
Eurowings stated that passenger safety was the top priority and was never compromised. The aircraft is undergoing technical investigation. The incident caused a brief interruption to flight operations at Düsseldorf Airport, which subsequently resumed without restrictions. Following the news of the incident, Lufthansa shares saw a decline of approximately 2.64 percent.
