Eurozone industrial producer prices rise amid energy cost surge

Eurozone industrial producer prices rose 1.9% in August compared to July, according to Eurostat data. On an annual basis, these prices increased by 8.2% across the Eurozone. The rise was primarily driven by the energy sector, where producer prices surged by 21.0% year-on-year.

Individual member states showed varying trends. Ireland recorded the highest annual increase in industrial producer prices at 17.1%, followed by Bulgaria and Lithuania. Conversely, Luxembourg was the only EU member state to record a decrease in annual industrial producer prices, falling by 7.9%.

In Germany, inflation rose to 3.3% in September 2026, exceeding economist expectations. This increase was largely attributed to rising energy costs. Additionally, German industrial orders experienced a significant decline of 10.6% in August, a drop much larger than the 1% decrease previously forecasted by analysts. A major contributor to this decline was the 'other vehicle construction' sector, which saw orders fall by 61.5%.

Retail trade in the Eurozone and EU showed signs of stabilization in August, with a slight increase in volume. Non-food products saw the highest growth, while fuel sales declined due to rising prices.
