Eutelsat tests LEO satellite connectivity on Polish rail network

Eutelsat has completed its first Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) rail connectivity trial in Poland using OneWeb satellite technology. The demonstration took place on a live PKP Intercity long-distance train traveling between Kozłów, Warszawa, and Tczew at speeds of up to 160 km/h.

The trial utilized a Kymeta Kestrel u5 terminal, which recently received railway standard compliance from TÜV Rheinland. The test focused on the system's ability to switch seamlessly between satellite and terrestrial technologies while maintaining connectivity for both passenger use and operational data services. The solution is designed to interface with onboard and trackside systems to support communications with operations centers.

Systems integrator ACO Solutions led the demonstration, with Hispasat serving as the distribution partner. Following these successful tests under real operating conditions, Kymeta plans to conduct further connectivity trials with rail operators over the next 60 days in anticipation of a broader rollout across European and global markets.
