Overview

Eutelsat is expanding its use of OneWeb Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology across Europe to enhance connectivity services.

In Poland, Eutelsat completed a trial on the PKP Intercity rail network, testing the ability of satellite terminals to maintain seamless connectivity for passengers and operational data while trains travel at speeds up to 160 km/h. The demonstration focused on switching between satellite and terrestrial technologies.

In Portugal, telecommunications operator MEO has partnered with Eutelsat to integrate LEO satellite links with existing fiber and 5G networks. This multi-layered architecture is intended to provide high operational continuity for critical sectors such as defense, energy, and logistics, serving both as a primary connection for remote regions and a redundant backup for terrestrial networks.
