Everton and Universidad de Chile face sanctions after match suspension

The disciplinary tribunal is reviewing the suspension of the Copa Chile match between Everton and Universidad de Chile in Viña del Mar. Referee Piero Maza submitted a report detailing the use of pyrotechnics by both sets of fans at the Sausalito stadium.

Maza reported that fireworks were launched from the Everton supporters' section during the pre-match ceremony. During the 82nd minute, numerous flares were ignited in the visiting supporters' section, and a flare from the Universidad de Chile section fell onto the pitch, narrowly missing player Maximiliano Guerrero and assistant referee Alán Sandoval. This led to the match being suspended.

Both clubs face potential sanctions. Under the penalty code, clubs could be sanctioned with between one and five matches played without spectators and fines of up to 500 UTM (approximately $35 million CLP). Additionally, players involved in offensive conduct could face suspensions ranging from one to ten matches.
