Everton Blair elected to Georgia's 13th Congressional District
Dr. Everton Blair, Jr., a Harvard graduate and the son of Jamaican immigrants, has won the runoff election for Georgia’s 13th Congressional District. Blair secured 53% of the vote, defeating Marcye Scott, who received 47%.
Blair’s victory marks several historic milestones: he is the first openly gay Black person elected to represent Georgia in the US Congress, the first from a Southern state to hold such a distinction, and the first Jamaican American to be elected to the seat. He will serve the remainder of the term left by the late Representative David Scott, who passed away in April.
