Alessandro Matri named first contestant for Ballando con le Stelle 2026

Former professional footballer Alessandro Matri has been announced as the first official contestant for the 21st season of the Rai 1 dance competition, Ballando con le Stelle 2026.

The announcement was made via social media through a video featuring Matri and his partner, Federica Nargi. Nargi, a former contestant who placed third in the 2024 edition, is seen jokingly attempting to teach Matri dance steps such as the jive and triple step. In the clip, Matri humorously addresses the audience, stating, “This year I fell for it too. From October I will be a new contestant... please, have patience.”

The new season, hosted by Milly Carlucci, is scheduled to premiere on October 3, 2026. Reports indicate significant changes to the program, including a move from the Foro Italico in Rome to the Saxa Rubra production center and a potential overhaul of the judging panel following the departure of Selvaggia Lucarelli.
