Ex-Honduran mayor and ex-Costa Rican OIJ director face new charges

A Honduran judge with national jurisdiction admitted a formal accusation of abuse of authority against former Tocoa mayor Adán Fúnez and three other ex‑municipal officials. The court ordered that they be summoned to appear on 17 June to face the charge, though no details of the alleged misconduct were released.

In Costa Rica, former director of the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ), Randall Zúñiga, said he has not been dismissed and that the recent revocation of his appointment by the Supreme Court’s plenary session is only a precautionary suspension lasting eight more days. He attributed the action to “media pressure” and stressed that an ongoing disciplinary investigation, which includes six of the 50 charges brought against him, does not constitute a final dismissal. A separate criminal probe on alleged information leaks is set to begin on 25 May.
