Ex Ilva steel plant reports two incandescent steel leaks in Taranto
Two incidents involving the leakage of incandescent steel occurred at the Acciaieria 2 section of the ex Ilva steel plant in Taranto. According to the Usb union, the first leak took place during the night between Thursday and Friday, October 2, while the second occurred on Friday morning.
Vincenzo Mercurio, the provincial coordinator for Usb, reported that the leaks were caused by holes in the tundishes. He noted that temperatures exceeded 1,500 degrees Celsius, creating significant fire risks and potential dangers for workers. The union has attributed these incidents to deficient or absent maintenance within various departments of the facility.
Usb is calling for immediate on-site inspections to reconstruct the events and implement preventive measures to ensure worker safety.
