Police dogs deployed to detect spiking substances
A new team of specialist police dogs is being deployed to identify offenders carrying substances linked to spiking and other harmful offences within the night-time economy. The dogs have been trained to detect substances commonly used in spiking and are currently operating across areas covered by Thames Valley Police and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to address violence against women and girls and to improve safety in nightlife settings. The National Police Chiefs' Council has recognized this capability, incorporating it into the national police dog portfolio. The dogs, including Major, Maverick, Puma, Dusty, AJ, and Reggie, will support officers in proactive policing operations to disrupt those seeking to harm others.
