Global organ donation awareness initiatives

Overview

Organ donation awareness efforts have been highlighted through various regional initiatives in Australia and the United Kingdom.

In Australia, participants in the 18th Australian Transplant Games in Launceston have used their experiences as transplant recipients to emphasize the need for more donors. Medical officials noted a discrepancy between public support and actual registration rates, specifically observing that in Victoria, while 90 percent of residents support donation, the registration rate is only 23 percent.

In the United Kingdom, a week-long awareness campaign in Exmouth led by campaigner Steve Gazzard resulted in 11 new individuals signing up for the National Organ Donor Register. The initiative included several community events and the illumination of Exmouth Town Hall to mark the awareness week.
