Expedia identifies top travel destinations for 2027

Expedia and Hotels.com have released the “Unpack ’27” report, analyzing flight and hotel search data to identify trending travel destinations for 2027. The report is based on search growth recorded between September 1, 2025, and July 27, 2026.

South Lake Tahoe in California emerged as the top destination, with searches increasing by 195 percent compared to the previous year. Other notable locations include Hyogo, Japan, which saw a 95 percent increase in searches. The report highlights a trend toward more personal and meaningful travel experiences.

Six of the top ten destinations received the Expedia Smart Travel Health Check, a designation inspired by the World Travel and Tourism Council. This framework recognizes locations with rich cultural and natural offerings that avoid the extreme crowding typical of major global cities.
