Expedia report identifies fastest-growing travel destinations for 2027

The Expedia Group ‘Unpack ’27’ report reveals significant surges in travel searches for several emerging destinations. South Lake Tahoe in the United States leads the growth with a 195% increase in searches for flights and accommodations.

Other notable rising destinations include Hyogo Prefecture in Japan, which saw a 95% increase in interest, and Punta del Este in Uruguay, up 65%. Additional locations showing strong growth include Sedona in the United States (+55%), Busan in South Korea (+50%), Holbox in Mexico (+45%), and Niagara-on-the-Lake in Canada (+35%).

The report indicates a shift in traveler preferences toward destinations that offer unique combinations of nature, culture, gastronomy, and specialized experiences rather than traditional tourist hubs. However, the report notes that search growth does not always guarantee higher hotel occupancy or actual arrivals, as travelers must still consider factors like air connections and seasonal conditions.
