Explosions reported in Iran near Strait of Hormuz
Explosions were reported in the Hormozgan province of southern Iran, specifically in the Karban area of Sirik city. While official Iranian media outlets have not yet confirmed the exact nature or cause of the blasts, there are reports suggesting the explosions may be linked to Iranian missile launches targeting vessels deemed to be in violation of transit regulations in the Strait of Hormuz.
Data from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy indicates that October has become the most intense month for maritime attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waterways since the conflict began on February 28. According to the institute, 28 confirmed attacks were reported in October alone, contributing to a total of 113 attacks since the start of the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.
Maritime records show that approximately 3.5 percent of the global supertanker fleet has been targeted, with 11 supertankers sustaining damage in October. These incidents occur amid heightened tensions in the Strait, a critical global energy corridor through which roughly one-fifth of the world's oil supply passes.
