Ostia explosion damages residential building and injures two

A violent explosion occurred on the evening of Friday, October 23, 2026, in Ostia, a coastal district of Rome. The blast, which took place around 9:40 PM, destroyed the entrance of an Ater public housing complex located at the intersection of Viale Vasco de Gama and Via dei Velieri.

Two people were injured in the incident; one was transported to the Grassi Hospital in Ostia, while the other received medical treatment on-site. As a precaution, 11 families were evacuated from the building.

Preliminary investigations suggest the explosion may have been deliberate, as authorities reportedly found a large paper bomb positioned at the building's entrance. Law enforcement and firefighters are currently collecting testimonies and reviewing surveillance footage to identify those responsible.
