Salto Expo 2026 opens amid livestock and competitiveness concerns

The Expo Salto 2026 has officially opened at the Asociación Agropecuaria de Salto premises, marking the 125th anniversary of the institution. The event brings together the productive, business, and commercial sectors of the department.

During the inauguration, Luis Manfredi, president of the Asociación Agropecuaria de Salto, highlighted several critical challenges facing the livestock sector. He specifically addressed the growing resistance of ticks to veterinary products, calling for improved diagnostics, sensitivity testing, and faster evaluation of new alternatives by the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries (MGAP). He also emphasized the need for a comprehensive plan involving authorities and producers to ensure meat safety and international reputation.

Salto Mayor Carlos Albisu noted the importance of the exhibition for the department's identity and mentioned ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the Central Hortícola del Norte and improvements to rural roads, to support local production and logistics.
