Expo Salto 2026 opens amid livestock concerns

Overview

The 118th edition of Expo Salto has officially opened at the Asociación Agropecuaria de Salto premises, marking the institution’s 125th anniversary. The event brings together the productive, business, and commercial sectors of the department.

During the inauguration, Luis Manfredi, president of the Asociación Agropecuaria de Salto, highlighted critical challenges facing the livestock sector. He specifically addressed the growing resistance of ticks to veterinary products, calling for improved diagnostics, sensitivity testing, and faster evaluation of new alternatives by the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries (MGAP). Manfredi also emphasized the necessity of a comprehensive plan between authorities and producers to protect meat safety and the sector’s international reputation.

Salto Mayor Carlos Albisu noted the exhibition’s importance to the department’s identity and cited ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Central Hortícola del Norte and rural road improvements, intended to support local production and logistics.
