South American livestock shows highlight bovine genetic advancements

Regional livestock exhibitions and auctions are highlighting advancements in bovine genetics across South America.

In Bolivia, the Expocruz 2026 exhibition featured a significant weighing event for Zebu cattle. The Nelore specimen Sylvester FIV Trébol, from the El Trébol ranch, was identified as the heaviest animal at 1,235 kilograms. Other notable performers included a Nelore Mocho weighing 1,135 kilograms and a Brahman weighing 974 kilograms. The Bolivian Association of Zebu Breeders (ASOCEBÚ) noted these results reflect improved genetic productivity in the sector. Additionally, the Santo Domingo ranch held its sixth breeding stock shopping event in Beni, showcasing Brahman and Nelore animals with genetic evaluations from the Brazilian Zebu Breeders Association (ABCZ).

In Argentina, the 19th edition of ExpoBra has commenced in La Banda, Santiago del Estero. The event features over 420 animals and approximately 80 ranches, showcasing Brangus, Braford, and Brahman breeds. Production Minister Néstor Machado emphasized the exhibition's importance to the national livestock agenda and its focus on integrating science and technology into regional production.

In Paraguay, Freemont conducted a successful auction of high-value Brahman genetics through Ferusa Negocios. The sale saw strong commercial interest in elite females, embryos, and pregnant heifers, with significant participation from both in-person and remote buyers.
