Extra-virgin olive oil preferred by US oncologists for cancer prevention

American oncologists have identified extra-virgin olive oil as their preferred cooking oil for cancer prevention. While cancer is influenced by various factors including genetics, environment, and lifestyle, experts suggest that maintaining a healthy diet can reduce cancer risk by approximately 30-40%.

Dr. Amar Rewari of Luminis Health and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine emphasizes that diet is a critical component of prevention alongside managing obesity, smoking, and physical activity. Other medical experts, including Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel and Dr. Gary Deng, recommend diets high in fiber and plant-based foods while avoiding ultra-processed items to lower the risk of colorectal, esophageal, breast, and prostate cancers.
