Extremadura government plans aid for self-employed workers on medical leave

The regional government of Extremadura is developing a new subsidy program to support self-employed workers facing temporary incapacity due to illness or accidents. Known as the 'Programa de Apoyo Económico a Autónomos en Incapacidad Temporal' (Tarifa IT), the initiative aims to compensate for ongoing business expenses, such as rent, utilities, and professional services, that continue even when a professional cannot work.

The proposed aid consists of a payment of 12 euros per day of temporary incapacity, up to a maximum of 60 days, totaling 720 euros. Notably, the subsidy will apply from the very first day of medical leave, provided the incapacity is recognized by Social Security or the relevant mutual insurance provider.

The first call for applications is initially allocated 600,000 euros, with 500,000 euros designated for 2027 and 100,000 euros for 2028. The regional government has opened the public consultation phase for the draft decree that will regulate the program.
