Spanish regional initiatives for family business support

Overview

In late July 2026, the Association Extremeña de la Empresa Familiar (AEEF) reported that more than half of its 600 member firms expected growth and planned €252 million in new investments. The association also highlighted its partnership with the national Fundación Conexus to raise the profile of family firms.

Following these reports, regional authorities introduced several support measures. In Extremadura, the Junta de Extremadura opened applications on 7 August for a succession-planning aid. This €500,000 programme provides up to €20,000 per beneficiary to cover 80% of costs for drafting family protocols or hiring external consultancy. To further support business transfers, the regional government also opened a tender for approximately €203,188 to hire specialized companies to provide consultancy and business valuation for the self-employed and micro-businesses.

In Andalusia, the regional employment authority launched Line 5 of the Emplea-T programme, allocating over €2.18 million. The scheme offers €20,000 for permanent, full-time hires of certain job-seekers, increasing to €22,000 for women. This measure targets unemployed individuals, including those with disabilities and ethnic minorities, aiming to secure at least 880 new contracts.

Additionally, the scope of family business advocacy expanded as the Asociación de la Empresa Familiar de Alicante (AEFA) became a patron of the Fundación Conexus, seeking to increase the visibility of Alicante-based firms at the national level.

By early September 2026, Extremadura expanded its social and economic support. The regional government approved a €7.7 million package to promote work-life balance, including monthly subsidies of up to €200 for each child under age three. Furthermore, €1.8 million was allocated to help SMEs and the self-employed implement remote work and flexible scheduling, offering up to €22,000 per beneficiary if both measures are combined. Applications for these teleworking subsidies remain open until 15 November 2026.
