Spanish regional initiatives for family business support

Overview

In late July 2026, the Association Extremeña de la Empresa Familiar (AEEF) reported that more than half of its 600 member firms expected growth and planned €252 million in new investments. By late September 2026, Extremadura expanded its economic support with a €47.5 million plan for self-employed individuals. This includes the ‘Zero-Price Family Collaboration Partner’ initiative, providing €1,920 annually for up to two years to cover social security costs for unemployed family members. Succession subsidies were also adjusted, ranging from €1,500 to €6,000 depending on municipality size. Additionally, the region allocated €1.8 million to support teleworking and flexible scheduling, offering up to €22,000 per company for combining remote work and flexible measures.

In October 2026, Extremadura began public consultations for the ‘Programa de Apoyo Económico a Autónomos en Incapacidad Temporal’ (Tarifa IT). This proposed initiative would provide self-employed workers with 12 euros per day for up to 60 days to cover business expenses during medical leave.
