Extremadura healthcare sees 27% of primary care appointments resolved remotely
In 2025, remote medical consultations in Extremadura reached nearly two million, accounting for 27.1% of the 7.36 million appointments conducted in primary care, including family medicine and pediatrics.
While the use of remote assistance saw a significant 35% decline from its peak of over three million services in 2021, the volume has stabilized at approximately two million since 2023. This suggests that remote consultation has become a standard component of healthcare activity in the region.
Evelio Robles, president of the Medical College of Cáceres, noted that while the intense growth seen during the COVID-19 pandemic has leveled off, administrative telephone consultations—such as providing test results—remain a stable feature in most health centers.
