Extremadura hits 78.5% breast cancer screening coverage, top in Spain

A Ministry of Health report shows that 78.54% of women aged 50‑69 in Extremadura completed mammography within the recommended timeframe, placing the region among the highest breast‑cancer‑screening rates in Spain (behind Galicia at 83.57%).

The national average for the same age group is 68%, down from 81.5% in 2017. The decline is attributed mainly to longer intervals between screenings rather than women never being screened. The report also highlights growing inequalities: coverage falls to about 60‑62% among socially disadvantaged women, compared with 75‑77% for more advantaged groups.
