Extremadura public employees protest for salary equalization

In Extremadura, thousands of workers gathered in Mérida to protest for salary equalization. The demonstration, organized by the CTSAGEX platform and supported by various unions, demands that the salaries of 35,000 public employees in the General Administration and the Extremadura Health Service (SES) be brought in line with those in other autonomous communities.

Currently, these employees face a 25% pay gap compared to their counterparts in other regions. María Curiel Muñoz, the Public Administration spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Assembly, criticized President Guardiola for failing to address the issue, stating he has “no excuse” to delay the process. She urged the regional government to negotiate and establish a work calendar to make salary parity a reality, suggesting that the 2027 budget should include specific provisions for this demand.
